The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Langkynma Area Unit in South West Khasi Hills has issued a strong statement opposing the entry of any Bangladeshi nationals—Hindu, Muslim, or Christian—into the state. The statement follows KSU leaders’ meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills regarding the recent detention of 12 individuals, including both men and women, suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals in the Nongjri and Nonghyllam areas.
KSU, led by Forwardman Nongrem, expressed concerns about suspected illegal migration from Bangladesh, prompting them to discuss the issue with the Deputy Commissioner. During the meeting, the DC reportedly acknowledged instances of illegal crossings and assured KSU leaders that he would coordinate with the Border Security Force (BSF) to address the matter and strengthen border security.
