KSU Says Leadership Will Emerge in Time, Warns Government Against Ignoring People’s Issues

HEADLINES

Shillong: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Wednesday asserted that the organisation has never faced a leadership vacuum and will elect its new office bearers at the appropriate time, as per its established process.

Addressing the media after a Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar said the union has always produced capable leaders from one tenure to the next. He informed that the election of new office bearers is likely to be held before April this year.

Marngar also cautioned the state government against treating issues concerning the indigenous community casually. He said key matters such as the Assam–Meghalaya border dispute, the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), and the demand for the Inner Line Permit (ILP) have remained unresolved for far too long.

Expressing concern, the KSU president said it was unfortunate that while the union and the indigenous community are striving to prevent unchecked influx of outsiders, some individuals are allegedly involved in human trafficking and facilitating illegal entry into the country.

He warned that if such activities are not stopped immediately, the KSU would be compelled to take strict action against those involved, stating that the organisation would not hesitate to issue a strong warning to safeguard the interests of the community.
