Shillong: Members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday launched an overnight sit-in protest in front of the NEIGRIHMS Director’s office, complete with mats and bedding.
The protest is aimed at pressuring the hospital administration to implement the union’s long-standing demands—especially the need to ensure greater job reservation for local tribal youth, particularly in nursing positions.
Earlier in the day, KSU members staged a peaceful demonstration with placards in front of the institute, expressing their discontent over the current recruitment practices.
Security forces, including police and CRPF personnel, were seen stationed around NEIGRIHMS as the protest intensified. The KSU had sought a meeting with the Director, but he reportedly left the premises without engaging with the protestors.
