New Delhi: A young Khasi woman from Meghalaya was rescued in Delhi after she was allegedly assaulted for refusing to enter the sex trade, with timely intervention by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit.
According to the KSU, it received a distress call from the victim’s sister, who informed that the woman, working in Delhi, had been attacked by a group of men at her place of residence. Acting swiftly, the KSU Delhi Unit alerted SPUNER and, along with Malviya Nagar police, rushed to the spot and rescued her.
Police said the accused claimed the woman had taken money from him and refused to return it, prompting him to confront her. However, the victim told police that she was attacked after refusing to engage in sex work, following which she was allegedly assaulted.
Both the accused and the victim are currently under police supervision. The KSU said it is coordinating with authorities to ensure the woman is safely sent back home after completion of all legal formalities.
The KSU Delhi Unit urged the government to take strict measures to prevent such incidents and advised job seekers, especially women, to thoroughly verify job offers and information before accepting work outside the state.
