Shillong — A delegation of KHADC Executive Members, including EM for Development Powell Sohkhlet, EM for Finance Seiborlang Warbah, Nominated MDC Matthew Makdoh, and senior officials of the Council, met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on 19 November 2025 to discuss various schemes and projects funded through the 15th Finance Commission under the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
Speaking after the meeting, Powell Sohkhlet said the discussion was “fruitful,” with the Union Minister directing officials to explore ways to release the pending funds under the Fifteenth Finance Commission. The Council also requested special financial assistance from the Centre for developmental activities and essential public works within the jurisdiction of KHADC.
Earlier, the KHADC team also held a meeting with the Joint Secretary and officials of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the nodal ministry for implementing 15th Finance Commission projects.
