KHADC Elections: East Khasi Hills gears up with tight security and smooth polling plans

HEADLINES

With the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections set for tomorrow, authorities in East Khasi Hills have left no stone unturned in ensuring a well-organized and secure voting process.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in charge of elections, Ronnie Wahlang, assured that meticulous planning has gone into the preparations, with officials working tirelessly to facilitate a seamless electoral exercise.

Polling materials for the 13 constituencies under East Khasi Hills are being dispatched from ISBT, Mawlai, while polling teams in Sohra and Pynursla subdivisions will receive their materials from their respective SDO Civil offices. Wahlang emphasized that all contesting candidates and political parties have been given the necessary support to hold meetings and rallies, reinforcing the democratic spirit of the elections.

To reach some of the more remote polling stations, election officials have already begun their journey. On Thursday, teams assigned to Mawphlang, Mawkynrew, and Nongkrem District Council Constituencies (DCCs) set out, with six teams headed for Mawphlang, five for Mawkynrew, and two for Nongkrem—some of whom must trek to their respective locations. The remaining polling personnel, covering approximately 720 stations has departed on Friday morning from ISBT.

Ensuring smooth communication and the well-being of polling officials remains a top priority. Medical teams have been deployed round-the-clock to assist officials before they embark on their assignments. Additionally, government personnel assigned to election duties have been given the facility to cast their votes via postal ballots, with a dedicated postal ballot cell operating at ISBT.

With all arrangements in place and security measures tightened, Wahlang expressed confidence that the elections will be conducted fairly and transparently, upholding the democratic rights of the people in East Khasi Hills.
