Jakrem SC scripted history by lifting the inaugural Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025 title with a thrilling 2–1 comeback victory over Na Rympei Football Academy at the SSA Stadium, Polo Ground, Shillong. The pulsating final saw Na Rympei, representing Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association, draw first blood in the 14th minute through their talismanic forward, Pynhun Shulet. However, an own goal in the 58th minute restored parity before Jakrem’s Iaphisha Marbaniang sealed the triumph in the 72nd minute with a stunning strike.
Jakrem, representing the Mawkyrwat District Sports Association, etched their name as the first champions of the MWSL—a milestone initiative by the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs to elevate women’s football in the state. The grand finale witnessed a packed crowd and notable dignitaries including Principal Secretary Frederick Roy Kharkongor, IAS, as chief guest, and Assistant Director Paia B War Nongbri as guest of honour, alongside MFA President Hamletson Dohling and General Secretary Sunesh Syiem.
The MWSL kicked off on 20 September and spanned 34 matches across five venues, showcasing the best of Meghalaya’s women footballers. Both finalists—hailing from outside Shillong—proved the sport’s expanding reach across the state. Jakrem’s resilience shone again after a similar 2–1 comeback in the semifinal against Laitkor SC. Na Rympei came close to reclaiming the lead when Pynhun’s shot hit the post, but it was Iaphisha’s looping winner that clinched glory.
Individual honours were awarded at the closing ceremony: Iaphisha Marbaniang was named Player of the Final, Sunalinda Iawren won Player of the Tournament, Ionaris Khongsit of Mawlum Tyrsad SC earned the Golden Glove, and Iaraplang Nongrum of Laitkor SC claimed the Golden Boot with 21 goals. The champions received ₹2 lakh, while the runners-up took home ₹1 lakh. The inaugural MWSL concluded on a high, setting a new benchmark for women’s football in Meghalaya.
