India–Bangladesh Relations Based on Mutual Trust Among People: Lahkmen Rymbui

HEADLINES

Shillong: Meghalaya minister Lahkmen Rymbui has said that the relationship between people of India and Bangladesh is built on mutual trust, particularly among communities living along the border.

Speaking on Tuesday, Rymbui, who represents a constituency located along the international border with Bangladesh, said many Khasi people also reside across the border in Bangladesh, reflecting long-standing cultural and family ties between communities.

He noted that trade relations between India and Bangladesh have historically been conducted on the basis of mutual trust, although policies of the Government of India also play a key role in regulating cross-border commerce.

Rymbui further stated that after the formation of the interim government in Bangladesh, certain restrictions were imposed on cross-border trade. However, he expressed hope that the new government would ease these restrictions and restore normal trade activities.

The minister also said that recent remarks by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh have given renewed hope to people living along the border, including Khasi communities residing in Bangladesh.
