Government to increase ex-gratia amount to families of the deceased in Mukroh

Shillong, December 10: The State Government is all set to increase the ex-gratia amount for the families of the 5 victims who died at the firing incident by the Assam Police on the morning of the 22nd of November in Mukroh.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong informed that the Government has directed the Revenue Department to change a few regulations in the ex-gratia law so that the amount to be given to the families of the 5 victims in Mukroh can be increased, and he also informed that the Revenue Department has begun the needed process.

With regards to the demand to provide employment on compassionate grounds to the relatives of the 5 deceased, Tynsong said that this matter is being scrutinized in detail by the Government, but the Government at present is only thinking about how to increase the ex-gratia amount to the families.

On the other hand, the Deputy Chief minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that for the other 2 injured persons the Government has also examined in detail how to distribute the funds at one go. He informed that the Government has taken the responsibility to pay the medical expenses of the 2.

It may be pointed that after the firing incident in Mukroh on the 22nd of last month in which 5 men from Mukroh lost their lives and 2 others were left injured, the Government announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs.5 lakhs each to the families of the deceased and payment of medical expenses also for the injured.
