Shillong, September 29: The residents of Sweepers Lane or Them Ïew Mawlong have sought for time from the Government to think about the preparations made by the Government for their new residence.
The State Government after completing the blueprint for the new place to relocate the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong, today called for a meeting with the leaders of the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) to explain to them the preparations that the Government has put in place.
Speaking with media persons after the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also the Chairman of the High-Level Committee for the relocation of residents of Them Ïew Mawlong, Prestone Tynsong informed that the Government has prepared the blueprint and has decided to relocate them temporarily to the site which houses the temporary Shillong Municipal Board office in Bishop Cotton Road. He informed that the representatives of the Harijan Panchayat Committee have sought time to discuss amongst themselves on the blueprint prepared by the Government.
He said that in the meeting it was clearly explained that the construction of residences will be as per flat system in order to fit all the 342 households that are in Them Ïew Mawlong.
On being queried, Tynsong said that whether they are satisfied or dissatisfied, the Government cannot do anything about that, but what the Government has decided has been made known to them and the location will be nowhere else but in Bishop Cotton Road.
With regards to the area in Them Ïew Mawlong, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government has prepared for the building of a Shopping Complex in the area and a special place will be allocated for street vendors.
The Secretary of Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC), Gurjit Singh said that the HPC from its end will scrutinize the blueprint proposed by the Government, since the Government has rejected what they want.
