Jirang MLA strongly oppose establishment of Casino


Nongpoh, September 05: After many civil society organisations, the residents and traditional heads from different parts of Ri-Bhoi District expressed their opposition to the plan of the Meghalaya Government to open casinos in Ri-Bhoi District, joining them in opposing this plan at this point of time is the MLA of the NPP from Jirang constituency Sosthenes Sohtun who has stood up against the plan to open a casino in an area which falls under Jirang constituency.

Sosthenes Sohtun expressed this at a press conference in Nongpoh, in which the MLA expressed concerned at the knowledge of this plan to open a casino in Ri-Bhoi District especially in an area which falls under Jirang constituency because whenever there is any form of gambling, illegal and illicit activities will also be there which will affect the peace and harmony of society.

Sohtun said that once he got wind of this plan to bring a casino in the areas of Jirang constituency as a public representative he met with the Cabinet of the State Government to express his opposition to the establishment of this casino.

With regards to another news that one village has already issued a No Objection Certificate, the MLA had also already met with the Rangbah Shnong of the said village and demanded that he retract the NOC issued.
