SHILLONG, July 19: The Dorbar Shnong of Them Mawbah along with the MLA of West Shillong have clearly stated that the Government should not relocate the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong to this locality and for which today the 19th of July they met the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also the Chairman of the High Level Committee for the relocation of the Them Ïew Mawlong residents.
Speaking with media persons, the Secretary of Them Mawbah,Eris Thabah said that the opposition of the locality is due to the already congested situation of the place, especially since Khasi residents in the locality do not even touch 500 even though the population of the locality is 14,000.
He said that everyone is well aware about the Harijans staying in Them Ïew Mawlong and as locality administrators they do not want Mawbah to become a locality which breeds crime, and further added that in case in the future they might have to go and get locality or residential certificates from the Harijans and on this matter, the locality will have to think far ahead.
The MLA of West Shillong, Mohendro Rapsang said he is always with the people and it is upto the wisdom of the Government where they want to relocate the residents from Them Ïew Mawlong. He further stated that besides the area being already congested bringing another 342 households will further make the congestion problem worse.
He said the Government has paid heed to this expression of the Dorbar Shnong, and the Deputy Chief Minister has promised to re-examine this plan and an alternate decision will be notified.
