The DGP visited Jaiaw and spoke with the people after assault incident


[11:09 pm, 30/06/2022] Bibz: SHILLONG, June 30: The Director General of Police (DGP) of Meghalaya, Dr.Lajja Ram Bishnoi today the 30th of June conducted an inspection in parts of Shillong and also spoke with a few youths in Jaiaw and also met with the owners of the shop where the assault incident of the 2 Kerala students occured.

This evening the DGP along with senior police officials of the East Khasi Hills District walked to parts of Khyndailad, Umsohsun, Motphran, Mawkhar and Jaiaw, and upon reaching Jaiaw also went and spoke with a few male youths. After this he also went and interrogated the shop owners over the assault of the 2 students on the 24th of this month.

The inspection conducted by the Police Chief of the State in these areas was meant to create a relationship of the police with the people and also to bring about a sense of safety, and to know about the problems of the local residents especially to get a feel of the situation in Shillong.

Speaking with media persons, DGP Bishnoi said that the aim of this visit of his is to understand the needs and problems faced by the local residents and to also look into the security measures that are required, and he also said that if needed the police department will further increase security forces.

He also said that the police department will also meet specially with the locality administrators in the week to come to understand the needs and to also seek for their cooperation in controlling crime.

The Police Chief sent a message to the youths to concentrate in their studies, to avoid illegal activities, and if they are faced with any problems to feel free and express their problems to the authorities concerned and also the police.

He urged the youths to avoid at all cost any illegal activities such as dealing in drugs, human trafficking, extortion and intimidating or assaulting others without any reason because such actions create a bad image for the State elsewhere. He said that in fact such actions are not pleasant for anyone whether it be the Rangbah Shnong or the residents, they are all against such actions because it brings a bad name to the State.

Dr.Bishnoi said that such inspections will continue in days to come to better understand the situation of the place.
