UDP to extend support to the NDA Presidential candidate


SHILLONG, June 28: The United Democratic Party (UDP) which has 8 MLAs in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and one independent MLA working with the party, have decided to extend their full support to the Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government, Draupadi Murmu who is a tribal from Odisha.

The President of the UDP who is also the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Metbah Lyngdoh said that the party will move forward in supporting the tribal candidate while also stating that the time is right for support to be extended to tribals to take over the chair of the highest office in the country. He said that the people and leaders from mainland India will also support the tribal candidate.

It may be mentioned that the election for the 15th President of India will be held in August this year, and the NDA Government led by the BJP has decided to field a tribal, Draupadi Murmu as their candidate while the Opposition has Yashwant Sinha as their candidate.
