HEADLINES

SHILLONG, May 11: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong stated that in Meghalaya, no application seeking Indian citizenship from citizens of other countries has been received as yet through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

It may be pointed out that the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah recently announced that the Central Government will implement the CAA fully once the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

On being queried today, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the CAA is already implemented, but in Meghalaya, areas under the Sixth Schedule have been exempted, while for about 3 percent of the area which is the European Ward, talks are in process and written communications have also been sent to exempt these areas also from the implementation of the CAA.
