WHAT ARE THE POLICE DOING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE MINISTER SAYS MAN POWER IS LACKING IN THE POLICE FORCE? : DEBORAH

HEADLINES

SHILLONG, March 04: The General Secretary of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Deborah C.Marak expressed her disagreement to the claim made by the Home Minister of Meghalaya in ascribing the inability to curb illegal coal mining and trade to the lack of man power in the police force.

She stated that the statement made by Rymbui is perhaps due to him being misled by someone or due to him being clueless about anything that has happened, while also expressing that she comes from a place with plenty of coal deposits and while commuting on the National Highways, just within 100 and 200 meters, police vehicles can be spotted which beckons her to raise the question, what are they doing on the highway and who are they protecting? She said that if the Government has directed the police to take stringent measures on those involved in illegal activities then the word illegal would not have been required to be uttered by the Minister.

In connection to the allegations on the presence of illegal entry points collecting taxes, the Congress leader said that the Government should constitute an independent inquiry committee otherwise the Government will not get a report on the aforementioned allegation as the district administration will not submit an objective and fair report and will instead try at all cost to protect the Government.
