Jowai: A devastating fire reduced a house at Sohmynting village in West Jaiñtia Hills to ashes on Sunday afternoon after two LPG cylinders exploded. The blaze broke out around 2:30 pm, quickly engulfing the home of Kong Sbuh Pyrtuh. Her husband, the only person inside, managed to escape unhurt.
Neighbours said the flames spread so rapidly that they could not intervene. As they attempted to douse the fire, two LPG cylinders suddenly exploded, forcing everyone to retreat. Fortunately, the cylinders were flung into an empty area, preventing injuries or fatalities.
A fire tender from the Fire & Emergency Services arrived, but the inferno had already destroyed the house and belongings. Officials from the Thadlaskeiñ C&RD Block later inspected the site to assess the damage.
