Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday asserted that the Meghalaya government will not tolerate the illegal activities of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) following the IED attack at the Dhar Company in Shymplong, East Jaintia Hills district.
Reacting to the HNLC’s claim that the attack targeted Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar’s property over alleged extortion demands, Sangma termed the outfit’s statements contradictory and said police have gathered sufficient evidence to act decisively. He assured that swift action has been taken and those responsible will be apprehended.
Police have confirmed the arrest of two HNLC over-ground workers on December 18, who have confessed to planting the IED. The militant group, in a statement issued by its general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw, claimed responsibility for the blast, alleging refusal of extortion demands by the Deputy Chief Minister.
