Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday said the Meghalaya government is prepared to place the expert committee report on the state’s reservation policy before the Assembly during the forthcoming session, which is expected to begin shortly.
Addressing reporters, Sangma said the government would soon announce the timeline for releasing the report, adding that the Assembly would be the appropriate forum for a detailed presentation and discussion. “The Assembly session will be starting very soon, and during that time we will be able to present everything directly on the floor of the House,” he said.
Explaining the delay, the Chief Minister said the report is extensive and highly detailed, running into thousands of pages, making a summary or partial disclosure impractical. He stressed that each aspect of the document requires careful examination before it is made public.
Sangma further stated that the cabinet is likely to take up the matter in its next meeting. “We have a cabinet meeting scheduled tomorrow morning, and most likely the report will be discussed then. Within a week or ten days, we should be in a position to make an announcement,” he added.
The expert committee report is expected to play a key role in shaping future decisions on the state’s reservation policy.
