Shillong: The Meghalaya Government has initiated discussions with the Cantonment authorities to jointly intensify vigilance in Lum Survey, located behind Them Ïewmawlong, after the area has increasingly turned into a hotspot for drug-related activities.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong, said on Tuesday that district authorities are investigating the identity and origins of those residing in Lum Survey. Police are also conducting parallel inquiries to trace individuals living in the area without proper verification.
Tynsong added that matters related to the inhabitants of Lum Survey are pending before the court, which limits immediate administrative action.
When reminded that certain pressure groups earlier attempted to demolish makeshift houses in the locality, Tynsong said such actions cannot be taken arbitrarily. “The moment anyone is affected, they move the court, and then we have to wait for court directions. That creates its own set of challenges,” he stated.
