Shillong— Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has stated that while the government is working on the implementation of a new pay structure for teachers, it will carefully examine the financial implications to ensure that other sectors remain unaffected.
Rymbui emphasized that the government does not wish to compromise the rights or welfare of the general public while addressing any specific sector’s demands. He added that the Education Department will hold discussions with the Finance Department to assess the extent of additional expenditure required for teachers’ revised pay.
“The government wants to strike a balance so that one decision does not negatively impact another,” Rymbui said. He further assured that along with the pay revision, efforts are also being made to improve the overall condition of schools — from infrastructure to adequate teaching staff — to ensure holistic educational development across the state.
