SHILLONG, July 19: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also the Chairman of the High Level Committee for the relocation of the residents from Them Ïew Mawlong, Prestone Tynsong said the Government will deliberate on means and where to relocate the residents from the said area, and has at present directed the Department of Urban Affairs to look for more places where the residents can be relocated.
He said the Government wants to work with all the Dorbar Shnongs, especially with the Dorbar Shnong of Mawbah which has expressed its concern over the plan to relocate the Them Ïew Mawlong residents to this locality.
The statement of the Deputy Chief Minister came after an opposition from the Dorbar Shnong of Mawbah and the local MLA on the plan fow which they also submitted a letter urging the Government to rethink again differently on the plan.
Tynsong further stated that if at present the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong are relocated, the Government does not want for any unfortunate incident or chaos to emerge. He also informed that till now the Department of Urban Affairs has only presented the idea that the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong might be relocated to the Government land which is close to the R.P Chest TB Hospital, but he said that if it is felt the area will be too congested in the provision for the 342 households, the Government has no other option but to divide or also relocate them to other places.
On being queried the Deputy Chief Minister said till now the Government has not received the blueprint for the construction of a building in the plot of land which measures about 3 acres in Mawbah, and as it is at present, the Government will try to look more for appropriate places which belong to the Government and the Government wants to resolve the matter in a proper manner to everyone’s satisfaction so that problems will not arise later on.
