SHILLONG, November 03: The existence of several toll gates instated by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council on the Shillong By Pass road has brought in criticisms from several agencies and the state government in response has also directed the KHADC to shut down all their toll gates immediately.
In the past few days though, news reporters passing through the Shillong By Pass road have discovered that the toll gates of the District Council are still functional even as criticisms over their legitimacy is made from time to time.
On the highway between Mawryngkneng to Thangshalai village, there are about 4 toll gates on both sides of the road and a long line of trucks was also witnessed in the area as a few people detained the trucks passing through the mentioned road.
On being asked about the toll gates instated by the KHADC, the Chief Minister, Conrad K.Sangma said that the toll gates should not be there at all while also informing that the state government had already written to the District Council with directives to shut down immediately all the toll gates in the mentioned area.
