The footpath near Civil Hospital Shillong has been completely cleared following the relocation of street vendors to a designated area developed by the government along the roadside near the PWD office at Barik Point.
The area now appears clean and unobstructed, allowing pedestrians to move freely and safely along the footpath without hindrance. Commuters welcomed the change, noting improved accessibility and convenience for those walking through the busy stretch.
Street vendors, meanwhile, expressed satisfaction with the new location and said they were hopeful that business would improve. They informed that they began operating from the new site on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, and added that no fee is currently being charged by the government for the space.
