Shillong: Dr Batskhem Marboh, spokesperson of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), has affirmed that he will abide by the decision of the party’s State Election Committee (SEC) regarding his candidature for the upcoming Shillong Parliamentary by-election, stating that he is ready to shoulder the responsibility if officially nominated.
Dr Marboh, whose name has been proposed as a candidate for the by-election, said he would accept and respect whatever decision the SEC takes, even if it entails a significant responsibility.
He, however, cautioned against complacency, stating that no candidate can claim assured victory in a by-election. He added that both he and the party would need to work diligently to secure the trust and support of the electorate.
Highlighting the party’s commitment to its founding principles, Dr Marboh said the VPP will continue to stand by the promises laid out in its election manifesto since its inception.
He stressed that the party remains steadfast in pursuing its core issues and will not deviate from its commitments to the people.
He also pledged to carry forward the issues and concerns raised in Parliament by the late Ricky AJ Synkon, particularly on matters such as the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), recognition of the Khasi language and the state’s boundary issues. Dr Marboh said that, if elected, he would continue to advocate for these issues with the same determination and clarity.
