Shillong: Shri Donald P. Wahlang, IAS, retired today as Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, with Dr. Shakeel Ahmed appointed as his successor. Speaking to the press, Wahlang expressed satisfaction with his tenure of over three years, thanking God for good health and the opportunity to serve.
While content with his contributions, he admitted there are pressing issues he had hoped to see further progress on, such as cleaning the Umkhrah river, tackling the drug menace, and easing Shillong’s traffic congestion. He also pointed to border disputes as a major challenge he worked hard to address, stressing the importance of bringing peace along the boundaries.
Another area he highlighted was the need for comprehensive service rules for all government departments.
As he steps down from the state’s top bureaucratic post, Wahlang will now assume the role of Chairperson of the Meghalaya Food Commission.
