Mawkyrwat, October 4, 2024: In a rare medical case, doctors at the Civil Hospital Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills, successfully removed a 2-inch fish bone lodged in the throat of a local resident, Goldenstar Khar Syiemiong. The patient had accidentally swallowed the fish bone while eating, and it became stuck in his throat.
Specialist Surgeon Dr. Danial Suting led the procedure, explaining that the situation was critical but successfully managed by the medical team. This incident highlights the growing capacity of Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital to handle complex cases locally, without needing to refer patients to Shillong for treatment.
