Mawkyrwat, November 12, 2025 — In a bid to promote awareness on road safety among residents, students, youth, and vehicle drivers, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, organized a special programme to launch several “Road Safety Activities” at the Multipurpose Hall, DC’s Office, Laitlawsang.
The event, held in collaboration with the offices of the District Transport Officer, Executive Engineer (PWD Roads), and Superintendent of Police, highlighted various initiatives aimed at improving public understanding and participation in road safety measures.
Additional Deputy Commissioner F.B. Basan, MCS, graced the occasion as chief guest and formally launched the “Rah-Veer” or “Good Samaritan Scheme.” The scheme recognises and rewards individuals who voluntarily assist road accident victims during the critical “golden hour,” thereby contributing to saving lives and strengthening public responsibility in road emergencies.
Speakers included P.K. Muttyent, Enforcement Inspector from the District Transport Office, who spoke on the importance of valid vehicle documents and compliance with traffic rules; J.A. Nongsiej, representative from PWD (Roads), who addressed issues related to road signage and accident prevention measures; and B. Jyrwa, MPS, from the Police Department, who discussed enforcement mechanisms and traffic regulations.
The programme also featured a special song by Amnis Shangdiar, with active participation from students, village leaders, and vehicle drivers. The session was chaired by N.D. Shira, MCS, Assistant Commissioner, who also delivered the vote of thanks.
The initiative marks a significant step in promoting community-driven road safety awareness across the South West Khasi Hills District.
