HEADLINES

Shillong: The Indian National Congress in Meghalaya has been jolted after senior leader Pynshngain N Syiem resigned from the party.

In his resignation letter addressed to K. C. Venugopal, Syiem criticised the party leadership, stating that despite waiting for a long time for reforms and renewal within the state unit, no concrete steps were taken.

He alleged that the party leadership appeared more focused on criticising the Central Government while neglecting internal organisational strengthening in Meghalaya.

Syiem further said that after listening to the voices and sentiments of the people of the state, he felt compelled to step down from the party.

With his resignation, he has also stepped down from his post as Working President of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee.

His departure is expected to have political implications within the party in the state as the Congress continues efforts to rebuild its organisational strength.
