Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Tuesday held a protest against the disqualification of its Congress leader and Member of the parliament Rahul Gandhi at Congress Bhavan at Shillong.
Led by the Congress Legislators Party (CLP) leader and spokesperson Ronnie V Lyngdoh including MLA from Mawhati Charles Marngar, MLA from Umroi Dr Celestine Lyngdoh and Gambegre MLA Saleng Sangma.
Speaking to reporters, Ronnie Lyngdoh condemned the disqualification of the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
“This is suppressing the democratic right, suppressing the democratic freedom of speech and expression by the NDA government led by Narendra Modi”, said Lyngdoh.
“They want to suppress the truth that our leader Rahul Gandhi has been raising in the parliament and in various platforms about the misgovernanace and misrule of the government”, added Lyngdoh.
Various protests were stages in different parts of the country by Congress leaders in showing solidarity to Rahul Gandhi.
It may be mentioned, the Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi’s membership of Parliament has been cancelled following his conviction and sentencing by a local court in Surat on Thursday. A notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Friday said Rahul “stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction i.e., 23 March, 2023 in terms of the provisions of Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951”.
