The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has officially announced Jingjang M. Marak as its candidate for the upcoming by-election for Gambegre constituency.
It is worth mentioning that, Jingjang is a close friend of Tura MP and former Gambegre MLA, Saleng A. Sangma.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has scheduled the election for the new MLA from Gambegre on November 13, with vote counting to take place on November 23.
After the resignation of Saleng A. Sangma from the Gambegre MLA seat, following his election as MP for the Tura Parliamentary Seat, the ECI has to necessitate the by-election.
Several political parties have already announced their candidates, with more expected to follow in the coming days.
The National People’s Party (NPP), which leads the MDA government will field Dr. Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma- wife of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, for the election.
Sadhiarani M. Sangma, wife of former Rangsakona MLA Zenith M. Sangma, has also declared her candidacy from TMC.
Meanwhile, the BJP is speculating to field a candidate, with Tura MDC Bernard N. Marak emerging as a potential contender.
