The coaches of Shillong Lajong FC and NorthEast United FC expressed their admiration for the overwhelming passion for football shown by the people of Meghalaya. In a match held today between Lajong and NorthEast United, over 15,000 fans filled the JN Stadium in Polo, Shillong.
Speaking to the media after the game, Lajong’s coach, Jose Hevia, and NorthEast United’s coach, Juan Pedro Benali, shared their delight at the massive turnout and the energy the fans brought to the match. Hevia acknowledged that Lajong’s defeat, a 3-0 loss, was influenced by an early goal due to a mistake, which dampened the team’s morale. Despite the loss, he expressed deep appreciation for the local fans’ love for football and vowed to work hard to get Lajong into the Indian Super League.
Benali of NorthEast United remarked that scoring the first goal gave his team the confidence they needed to secure the win. He also noted that the fans’ support was truly inspiring and that this experience in the Durand Cup would help prepare his players for the upcoming ISL season.
In yesterday’s match, Shillong Lajong fell 3-0 to NorthEast United FC.
