Shillong: Around 40 km of border areas in Meghalaya remain unfenced due to various challenges. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday said that the State Government has taken the matter seriously and is working to expedite the completion of border fencing along the India–Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
The remaining unfenced stretches are located in parts of East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, and South Garo Hills districts.
The Chief Minister also informed that a meeting was held on December 24, 2025, involving various departments of the Government of India, including the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB), to discuss security and border protection measures in these areas.
