Shillong, Oct 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the recent tragic incidents involving the deaths of several children in the state, including a 13-year-old girl in Ri Bhoi and two minors aged 4 and 7 years from Nongrah, Shillong.
Speaking during the observance of “Girl Child Day”, the Chief Minister urged citizens to stand united to protect innocent lives and work collectively to prevent such horrifying crimes from recurring — not only in Meghalaya but across the country.
“These incidents that claimed the lives of our children are not connected to one another, yet each represents a profound loss,” Sangma said. He stressed the need for communities to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring safety and justice for every child.
As a mark of respect and mourning, a two-minute silence was observed during the event to honour the memory of the children who lost their lives.
