In a thrilling finish to the Shillong Premier League 2025, Langsning FC were crowned champions after Mawlai SC were held to a 1–1 draw by Rangdajied United FC in the season’s final clash at the SSA Stadium, Polo, this evening.
Langsning, who last played on October 14, needed two results to go their way — and they did. Shillong Lajong drew 0–0 with Nangkiew Irat on Saturday, and Mawlai’s failure to win today sealed the title for Langsning, who ended with 20 points, one ahead of both Lajong and Mawlai (19 each). The title marks Langsning’s third SPL triumph, following their back-to-back victories in 2017 and 2018.
The team’s transformation under Coach Khlain Pyrkhat Syiemlieh has been remarkable. After finishing sixth last season, Langsning rebuilt their squad — retaining experienced players like Dajiedlang Wanshnong, Rajat Paul Lyngdoh, and Chusrang Sangma, while bringing in key talents such as Donlad Diengdoh, Apborlang Kurbah, and rising stars Samuel Phawa and Wanshwadame Diengdoh.
Despite a shaky start, winning only one of their first three matches, Langsning finished the season with four consecutive victories, proving their resilience and consistency.
In today’s match, Mawlai took the lead through Ricky Chyne in the 50th minute, but Pasborlang Khonglikong equalized for Rangdajied eight minutes later. Mawlai dominated possession but failed to capitalize on their chances, while Rangdajied’s goalkeeper Meshan Banjop Sumer pulled off crucial saves to deny them a victory.
The top six teams — Langsning, Lajong, Mawlai, Nangkiew Irat, Rangdajied, and Sawmer — have now qualified for the upcoming Shillong Super Cup. Champions Langsning and runners-up Lajong advance directly to the semifinals, while the remaining four will compete in playoff matches.
