SHILLONG, Nov 17: Two students of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) sustained serious injuries on Monday evening after a Maruti car ran over them near Gate No. 2 of the campus.
The incident occurred around 7 pm when the vehicle, reportedly coming from inside the university, rammed into the students who were standing near the gate. Before hitting them, the car also struck a parked scooty, according to eyewitnesses.
Witnesses at the scene alleged that the driver appeared to be intoxicated and was driving at high speed. They said the vehicle’s lights were flashing as the driver lost control and ran over the two students before crashing near the gate.
An ambulance was rushed to the spot, and both injured students were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police from the Mawkynroh Outpost arrived shortly after and seized the vehicle. The driver was detained for questioning.
