Shillong: Plans to temporarily set up the Shillong Campus of the Capt. Williamson A. Sangma State University at the Bijni Complex in Laitumkhrah have hit a legal hurdle, with a petition on the ownership of the land now pending before the Meghalaya High Court.
The state government had proposed to use the Bijni Complex as a temporary site for the university while it awaits land acquisition clearance for a permanent campus in New Shillong under the Urban Affairs Department.
Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma confirmed the plan, stating that the government had intended to proceed with the Bijni site in the interim. However, following the ownership dispute, the government has decided to put the plan on hold until the High Court delivers its verdict.
Despite the delay, Sangma added that groundwork and preparations for the university’s development are continuing steadily.
