The Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya, Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari, said a by-election for the Shillong Parliamentary constituency must be conducted within six months following the sudden demise of MP Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon in February.
He stated that preparations are underway to ensure the election is conducted smoothly, while the state awaits the official announcement from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Tiwari also informed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll will soon be implemented nationwide to update voter lists once directions are issued by the ECI.
