A Bolero vehicle bearing registration number ML 05 Z 0515 caught fire suddenly from the bonnet while returning from the Assembly session on Thursday. The incident occurred at around noon while the vehicle was en route in Shillong.
According to sources, the vehicle developed an engine fault, leading to overheating and thick smoke, before flames erupted on the road near Civil Hospital Shillong.
The vehicle was being driven by Dominic Nongrem and reportedly belongs to the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Security).
Personnel from Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot in time and managed to control the fire, preventing any major mishap. No injuries were reported in the incident.
