K.C. Biswal, the Registrar who recently came to take charge at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), said that he has taken up the position only temporarily with the aim of completing pending work so that the funds allocated to the university do not go to waste before the end of the current financial year.
It may be recalled that Biswal had recently assumed charge as Registrar after he was reportedly appointed by the NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prabha Shankar Shukla.
However, on March 2, while he was on his way from Shillong to Guwahati, he was attacked and injured near Mawiong. Following the assault, he was rushed to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) for treatment.
Sources said that Prof. K.C. Biswal had come from the Tura Campus to assume the role of Registrar. According to reports, unidentified individuals had first followed him near the NEHU campus and later intercepted him near Mawiong, where they attacked him and also damaged the Assam-registered tourist vehicle he was travelling in.
