During a consultation with the Expert Committee on Reservation Policy, Bethany Society emphasized the need for the inclusion of a 4% job reservation for persons with disabilities in Meghalaya’s revised policy. The demand aligns with the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the Meghalaya State Policy for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
Cormo Noronha, Secretary of Bethany Society, stated that the reservation policy must incorporate this 4% quota as it is a legal right under existing laws. He highlighted that the quota should be applied to district-level job openings to ensure proper representation and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The society stressed that the revised reservation policy must not bypass the rights of persons with disabilities, and urged the committee to ensure that this quota is implemented effectively.
