SHILLONG, August 03: The Working President of the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Bajop Pyngrope said that because it is an election year, there will be people claiming a right or take the credit on the issue of including the Khasi and Garo language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
He said that he understands it is an election year and everyone will take advantage for it is seen in media platforms that a party from West Bengal has taken ownership of raising the issue to include the Khasi and Garo language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. However, he also said that this matter should be supported by all political parties without aiming for any political gain or agenda.
He said that the demand to include the Khasi and Garo language is no longer new or unheard of because this issue was also raised by MPs of the NPP in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha after the MDA Government passed a resolution on it in 2018.
Bajop Pyngrope said that this no longer as the Khasi language was recognised in 1992 after the Manipuri language was recognised, followed by a recognition also of the Bodo language in 2002.
On the other hand the youth leader of the NPP extended a special thanks to the Khasi Authors Society(KAS) which spearheaded the demand which is now starting to reach its fruition state.
