A large number of people many from rural areas on Wednesday took to the streets to protest against the linking of Aadhaar. The protest, organised by the Awaken India Movement (AIM), was held in front of the Kiang Nangbah statue near Civil Hospital, Shillong.
Speaking to our reporter, the protesters have expressed their firm stand, saying they will never agree to enrol for Aadhaar, even if it means being excluded from various government welfare schemes.
One man said he refuses to register for Aadhaar because he wants to live a life of freedom from any unholy threat. He also voiced concern over school children who have been forced to drop out simply because they have not enrolled for Aadhaar.
