Tura: An ACHIK NGO member succumbed to his injuries after being assaulted by unidentified persons at Goalgaon under Rajabala Police Station on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2 pm when the victim, identified as Dilseng M. Sangma, son of Gaban Ch. Marak and a resident of Amokgre, Phulbari in West Garo Hills district, was allegedly attacked.
Sangma was immediately rushed to Bhaitbari Community Health Centre and later referred to Tura Civil Hospital. However, he died on the way due to the severity of his injuries.
Police said teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend those involved in the assault. A search operation is underway to identify the perpetrators at the earliest.
The District Police have appealed to the public to maintain peace and harmony and to refrain from circulating unverified or provocative content on social media that could disturb communal harmony. The District Administration has also initiated steps to form a Peace Committee.
Citizens have been urged to cooperate with the investigation and share any information related to the incident or suspicious activities with the nearest police station or the Police Control Room, Tura.
