‘Colors Of India’ Lights Up Lok Bhavan On 80th Independence Day

The Governor of Meghalaya, Shri C. H. Vijayashankar, hosted the traditional ‘At Home’ reception at Lok Bhavan, Shillong, to mark India’s 80th Independence Day.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, senior government officials, defence and police personnel, artists, cultural representatives and other distinguished guests.

Themed ‘Colors of India’, the programme showcased the cultural diversity of India and Meghalaya through traditional dances, music and performances from different parts of the country. Performances included Khasi and Garo traditional dances, Jaintia folk dance, Bharatanatyam, Kalbelia and Rouf, along with performances by military bands.

Grassroots achievers from Meghalaya were also felicitated for their contributions to woodcraft, bonsai and traditional musical instruments.

Following the reception, Lok Bhavan was opened to the public, allowing thousands of visitors to explore the historic premises and stalls featuring local entrepreneurs, farmers and artists.

The celebration also reflected the transformation from Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan, highlighting the idea of the Governor’s residence as a space belonging to and serving the people.
