Shillong: UDP MLA from West Shillong and Adviser to the Social Welfare Department, Paul Lyngdoh, has stated that the MDA-2 government has significantly improved and elevated the standard of governance in the state over the past eight years.
His remarks came in response to queries regarding the completion of eight years of the NPP-led MDA government.
Lyngdoh highlighted key achievements of the government, including the relocation of street vendors from the Khyndai Lad area and efforts to promote Shillong’s cultural identity, particularly in music and the arts, as notable successes.
At the same time, he acknowledged that several challenges persist some inherited from previous governments. He noted that public perception regarding corruption remains a major issue that needs to be addressed transparently, even though it is a difficult task.
On another note, responding to questions about internal issues within the UDP, Lyngdoh said such situations are part of any political setup, and ultimately, the people will decide who leads the government in 2028.
He also commented on reports suggesting that former UDP leader Dr. Jemino Mawthoh may join the BJP, stating that such a move could potentially strengthen the party.
