SHILLONG: A major fire broke out at Sookilo market in East Jaiñtia Hills district on Wednesday evening, reducing several shops to ashes.
According to sources, the incident occurred at around 8 pm. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, although significant damage was caused to shops and goods.
Fire and Emergency Service personnel rushed to the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control.
Police have also launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
