Shillong: Minister and government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla said the government is exploring ways to introduce safety measures for futsal grounds in Meghalaya in consultation with ground owners.
Speaking to the media after a Cabinet meeting, Shylla said it is not yet possible to immediately frame rules or regulations for operators of small football grounds, commonly known as futsal arenas. He noted that the futsal business is a relatively new and rapidly growing activity, providing livelihood opportunities for many people.
However, he stressed that the government does not intend to leave the sector unregulated. Instead, discussions will be held with futsal ground owners before any guidelines or standard operating procedures (SOPs) are introduced.
Shylla added that the Health Department will take the lead in initiating steps to frame safety guidelines aimed at protecting people who use futsal facilities for recreation and fitness.
