HEADLINES

Nongpoh: — Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar has expressed his vision to transform sections of the Wah Umïam in the Tyrso area of Ri Bhoi into a major tourism hotspot capable of drawing large numbers of visitors.

Marngar, accompanied by Dr. Clestine Lyngdoh and Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal (IAS), conducted an inspection of the picturesque river on Thursday. He said the site holds strong potential to become a leading eco-tourism destination following the successful inauguration of the Tamasa Amur Falcon festival at Umtnam.

Speaking to the media, the MLA said he hopes to develop parts of Wah Umïam into a Fish Sanctuary, while also creating safe and accessible boating and leisure zones (jaka kieng lieng) for tourists. He added that several villages across the Mawhati Constituency possess untapped natural attractions, and he aims to develop and showcase them to bring economic benefits to local communities.

Marngar stressed that promoting tourism will open new livelihood avenues, enabling residents to earn sustainable incomes while preserving the region’s ecological beauty.
