Shillong: The South West Khasi Hills district administration is awaiting court approval to transport 3,039.92 MT of illegally mined coal from Rajaju and Diengngan villages to Coal India Limited’s Depot No. 7 at Nongjri for auction under the MMDR Act, 1957.
According to the Justice B.P. Katakey Committee’s 34th interim report to the Meghalaya High Court, the shifting will begin immediately once the court issues its order. The administration has requested transportation funds from the Department of Mines and Resources (DMR), which has been urged to expedite the release.
The coal remains stored in the two villages pending court clearance and compliance with legal procedures.
